There is good reason for this, of course, for the US Dollar is the global reserve currency at present even if it is beginning to look of dubious value today.

A herbal care company in India is to combine its 24-c gold herbal range with a further expansion of its ayurvedic medicine production, it has revealed.

JR Herbal Care India, which makes the Jovees range of herbal cosmetics, has said it is looking for four new locations to establish plants across the country, the Financial Chronicle reports.

Noting that these need to be close to the sources of its ayurvedic medicines, the firm’s head of business Rakesh Misri commented: "We are looking at places which offer good quality medicinal plants and herbs to make herbal cosmetics with curative properties."

The new products will be added to a range that, as well as producing 24-c gold, includes products to help care for feet, hair, lips and eyes, as well as sun care.

Recent research has suggested that combining gold with tea can improve health, a report in the Journal of Materials Chemistry has stated.

University of Missouri researchers said that the addition of gold salts to the drink could help create nanoparticles, which can then be used to destroy cancer tumours.

Gelin Abaci has added a new range of gold wedding jewellery to its Tension Collection, it has been announced.

The company, which was established by Gabriel Gelin and Sam Abaci, has unveiled the TR012 tension set ring, which is available in 18-c gold and is produced to exactly match the wearer’s specifications, the Jewelry Weblog reports.

Priced at $1,200 (£847), the item is available in ring size three to nine, while those looking to spend more can opt for the TR016 or TR095 pieces, which are priced at $1,840 and $1,975 respectively.

According to the news source, each of the items is hand-inspected before leaving the company’s factory, while some rings carry a lifetime warranty protecting against defects in design of workmanship.

Elsewhere in the jewellery sector, a 24-c design was recently selected as the winner of this year’s Auditions Gold Jewelery Design Competition.

The event was held in Beijing and features more than 700 entrants, CCTV International reports.

A 24-c gold design entitled Wings of Love has won the top prize at this year’s Auditions Gold Jewelry Design Competition.

Designer Huang Yingya picked up the accolade at the event, which was held in the Chinese capital Beijing and carried the theme of ‘Live Love Without Limits’, CCTV International reports.

Her piece, which was submitted along with more than 700 other items produced by nearly 400 designers from across the country, received praise from a number of judges at the event.

"We are all excited [because] gold is difficult to design," member of the judging panel Yip Kam Tim told the news source.

And Ms Yingya described her win as a "big surprise," noting that the recognition for her work was also "very encouraging".

Elsewhere in the jewellery industry, the latest designs are currently being showcased at a four-day exhibition in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah, the Saudi Gazette reports.
